The Last Post .....

Kia ora everyone

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support of the children and their learning with me as their teacher.

We have done so much and I hope that this blog has provided a window into their learning, creating and sharing.

Lifelong friendships have been established and I believe that all of the children are becoming confident, connected, lifelong learners.

It has been a pleasure to have been their teacher.

I wish all of you a safe and happy holiday with your friends and families.

Valfh's Poetry...

This week we were learning about poetry and how they are
written in different structures.
We have also been focusing on Saint Francis of Assisi and
Jesus Christ for the coming of Christmas.

I have written all these poems using my own words.

School - Past Present & Future

In our school the term 4 focus is on contrasts.
I picked to do a contrast of school  in the past, present and future. In this emaze I have included information like the classroom equipment, subjects, how long the school days and years are/were/might and year groups.
I decided to put all my information through emaze.
Josh C in R3 created a really fabulous emaze presentation - based on our
schoolwide 'opposites' focus for Term 4.
To see more of Josh's awesome work visit his blog and please leave a comment for him.

The AIA Healthy Kids Challenge starts Wednesday 26th October

Room 8 are PARTICIPATING and this STARTS Wednesday 26th October...

The AIA Healthy Kids Challenge program is an exciting initiative presented by AIA, Huawei and technology partner, Azion Wellness, aimed at getting primary aged children more active, more often. Students from schools all over NZ will build their own avatars online, then track their daily activity to experience an entertaining virtual adventure that takes them around the globe. It’s a lot of fun as all participants view videos of their avatars experiencing each destination along the route and receive health, exercise and nutrition tips from some of NZ’s greatest sports people, like Gemma Flynn from NZ Hockey, Cory Jane, legendary NZ rugby player and other special guests.
Answer the quiz question at the end of every leg and you will test your knowledge as well as every correct answer giving you entry into the draw for an AIA $1000 sporting grant for your school or a Huewai tablet for your class.
Additionally, if parents support their children and taking part in the Class Parents Team for every correct quiz answer they add, your class gets another entry into the draw…so sign up!! PLEASE...
GO TO...   https:/www.healthykids.kiwi and click Register to email your interest.
ALL R8 students will receive their pedometer on Tuesday 25th October and will NEED to wear them EVERY DAY for the following 6 weeks - this is part of our Maths and PE for Term 4
Thank you for your ongoing support of the learning, creating and sharing in Room 8.
A blue letter is going home with the students today with all the details.

Mele & Estelle's Conservation Week 2016 Stupeflix presentation

In our classroom we have been learning about conservation week. In this slideshow we will explain what conservation week is.

What we are using to guide our blogging

Components
Beginner
Getting Going
Smart Learner

Learning

What have I been learning?

  • I’ve written what I have been learning about e.g. shared my WALT
  • I have put in an image, drawing or a screenshot of my learning
How do I know I have learnt?

  • My post includes information and ideas that show what I learned.
  • I created a DLO that shares my ideas about the learning: eg, a video, diagram, infographic etc
Reflected on my learning:

  • My post has my new ideas and what I enjoyed or found really difficult
  • I’ve shared what I think my next steps are, what I’d like to know more about, and what I might do differently next time

Impact

  • I have explained the learning I did
  • Most of my ideas can be seen
  • I included a photo, image or screenshot
  • My title is unique or catchy
  • My DLO is my own creation, makes sense and adds more information
  • My post may include embedded html content e.g. collage, video, Google Slide, animation etc
  • My post shows WHO I AM as a learner and is unique to me.
  • My information and ideas help my audience to understand the learning, [and there’s a link to this activity to my class learning site]
  • For my DLO, I (or my group) made all of the learning being shown from scratch

Punctuation

  • Some of my spelling and punctuation is not right
  • My post might be hard for the reader to understand
  • I have checked my punctuation and spelling
  • I have asked a buddy to read my post, made corrections and I cannot see any mistakes
  • I’m confident all my spelling and punctuation is correct and it makes sense for my readers, they will be able to read it easily

Layout

  • My font sizes and colour may be different and need making the same
  • My images or embedded content might not fit properly
  • I may not have used labels or a title on my learning blog post.
  • I previewed layout to see how my post would look and changed it where I needed to
  • Font size and colour match
  • I’ve used a title & labels
  • If I’ve used other people’s work or thinking I have shown the source or attributed it to them
  • Media/html content is checked e.g. size, position, and appears when post loads
  • My labels and title are specific to the learning & help people searching my blog
  • I am beginning to use scheduling for publishing so my posts don’t all come at once
